This week, biodiversity was discussed in the presentations on the theme of COP-29 Azerbaijan within the scope of the “UN Talks” programme. In the programme organised by the Turkish World Monitoring Centre of the Divan Association, Gamze Altay made a presentation titled “Biodiversity and Conservation: Protection of Biodiversity in Azerbaijan, The Role of Biodiversity in Combating Climate Change”. In her presentation, Altay stated that Azerbaijan is the intersection point of various bio-geographical areas and has an important place for the Caucasus Ecological Region. In addition, the action plans and national programmes of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan for biodiversity conservation were also included in the presentation. Explaining the nature of Azerbaijan’s Red Book, in which rare and endangered animal and plant species are recorded, Altay concluded his presentation by mentioning the factors that negatively affect biodiversity in the country. After the presentation, the participants expressed their opinions on the concepts of ecological balance and ecological terrorism, and the question of what can be done to protect habitats and wildlife.
